1. Ad-Aware

This was recommended in a book “Windows XP - Time Saving Techniques For Dummies” which I bought 7 years ago and is one of popular “Dummies” Series (Wiley Publishing).

The author of the book recommended ONLY Ad-Aware software so I am fully confident with them.

They won numerous prestigious national and international awards

2. Spybot – Search & Destroy

I just got to know them, searching Google.

It seems Ad-Aware and Spybot are considered best.

They are award winners, too.

The looks of Spybot are less attractive than AdAware, but I feel the performance is better i.e. This one catches threats more than Ad-Aware does.

I do not pretend to be an expert. Far from it. So please don't take this comment as an expert comment, but reference only.

I use their auto protection called “Tea Timer” while I am online together with auto protection of Free AVG anti virus software.

I occasionally scan with both Ad-Aware and Spybot.
