Most Bang For Your Buck With Web Hosting

Article Source : http://www.thehostingnews.com/most-bang-for-your-buck-with-web-hosting.html permits republishing here.
March 18th, 2011 By: THN News

Word of mouth seems to be the best means of advertising, as a lot of people know that are currently work in the marketing field. When you get your haircut or that “deal of a lifetime” you tell your friends about it. In contrast, you have a horrible experience with a service or product and you are inclined to spread the word on it. Furthermore, good news spreads virally. I can’t tell you how often I see something that has won an award and had the urge to check it out. Web hosting is no different as it is a service that is a valuable treasure to many business owners, entrepreneurs, and webmasters.
Customer Support

Customer service is one aspect to web hosting that can’t be lacking. Imagine the frustration of developing a website, reaching out to hundreds and thousands of customers/clients and in an instant everything goes haywire. Your site goes down and you are now losing money every second, minute, and hour. Time to panic or do you know you are in good hands?

Servers, computers, and websites have problems from time to time regardless of the circumstances. At times you just need to talk to an actual “human” to sort out the issue. Your hosting company needs to have an availability that is nothing shy of 24/7 full technical support. Agents need to be able to be reached in a variety of ways including by telephone, live chat, email, and support tickets.
Competence is another major issue with web hosting that is often overlooked. Obviously, if the tech is not knowledgeable, but always responsive it would out way the value of their customer support. When your website has a bug or scripting issue you need a way to quickly diagnose the problem and resolve the issue quickly.
Features

Features are commonly overlooked, and many times you won’t realize the features that are needed to operate a website until it’s too late. Along with purchasing a plan that will allow you a sufficient amount of bandwidth and disk storage also consider these features:

▪ Control panel – The control panel is the backbone between a functional website and a nonfunctional website. One of the most common control panels, cPanel 11 (Linux) or H-Sphere (Windows) allows you to install various scripts with minimal computer know-how using Fantastico. These scripts could be anything from WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, phpBB2, Zen Cart, and over 80+ other scripts. Your control panel will allow you to add domains, setup email accounts, manage FTP’s, modify your billing, ect.

▪ Database support- Database support is always offered with any web hosting package from the cheapest Shared hosting plan to the most expensive Dedicated hosting plan. Because servers have a limited number of processes and resources that they can handle, it makes perfect sense to go with a hosting plan that provides MS SQL (Windows) or MySQL (Linux) based databases. Multiple websites can build up your database limit rather quickly, so it is imperative that you read the specifications of each hosting package.

▪ Site Backups – As we all know computers have problems from time to time, regardless of the precautions that are taken. One vital feature to any hosting package is a website backup utility. Just like on a Windows computer, the common “Restore Point” acts as a security blanket to keep all your important files backed up. Regardless of the precautions taken and the security measures that are installed on your server you are always going to run into malware, site hacks, and trojans that can harm your website.
Reliability
Reliability seems to be one area that webmasters commonly overlook until problems occur. You should be confident that your site is going to be functioning at all hours of the day with minimal downtime. So what could be considered an acceptable amount of uptime? As farfetched as it sounds 99.5% uptime should be obtained throughout a month’s worth of service. Anything less is unacceptable and you shouldn’t deal with hours of outages or frequent errors.
Bear in mind that servers do have to be reset from time to time, but it should never be for more than a couple of minutes. One excellent technological advancement that has aided in servers reliability is called “server load balancing”. This is exactly what it sounds like. The principle behind this is to distribute work between many devices. For example, if other sites located on your server get a spike in visitors or bandwidth; hosting integrated with load balancing will distribute the workload evenly in order to increase performance and increase your reliability.
All and all, in order to get the best hosting package for your website’s needs, you need to have an excellent customer support team that is knowledgeable in fixing and resolving different issues that might occur. Features are something you should boast about as they can insure that you are getting all the bells and whistles your site needs to run efficiently. Last but not least, reliability should be tops amongst the industry with the latest hardware and software. All these rolled into one should insure you are getting the most bang for your buck.

Overview of types of web hosting

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As the web hosting industry evolves, so do the types of web hosting offered. They range from shared hosting (also called virtual hosting), where clients have accounts on servers shared with other clients, to dedicated hosting, where clients have sole use of entire servers. Beyond dedicated hosting is colocation, where users place their own servers in a datacenter and are responsible for the servers themselves.

Between the above types of web hosting are reseller hosting (clients can resell web space to their clients, using accounts on shared servers) and VPS hosting (clients have part of a server that's partitioned off from other accounts).

Web hosting is offered on Linux/Unix or Windows servers, which gives us the industry terms Linux hosting and Windows hosting.
In addition, there are specialty types of web hosting (application-specific hosting), where the web host tailors the service for specific needs, such as clustered hosting and file hosting.

How To Choose a Web Host - Basic Guide

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Hi! Readers
This topic is everywhere, but I find this plain English article very easy to understand
As you know I I want every thing free if possible so I do not pay any cents for Web Hosting,Domain Name, security Software(anti-virus,firewall, anti-spyware etc)
But If I were to pay for web hosting,my very first priority is SUPPORT and RELIABILITY !!!

5 years ago I chose a cheap broad band ISP and it was shocking.
I got to my conclusion that I do not care about high price or slow speed and All I need is I keep connected when I am online.
Support was non existence and its broad band was not reliable.

I checked broad band service forum and consumer advocate group and how consumers are rating them.
I changed to an expensive ISP and it is fantastic. 24/7/365 service

Choosing a host
Are you confused, perplexed and undecided? These are the major "symptoms" for those who have already designed their website but don't know which web hosting provider to choose from. Clearly, with all the attractive packages offered by the hosting company, no one would blame you for having such headaches if you were not an IT-savvy person. Even if you are an IT-savvy person, I'm sure you might face with some difficulties choosing the ideal hosting provider since there are so many different type of prices in set by different web hosting provider.

Well, talking about IDEAL, do you believe there is IDEAL web hosting provider for everyone? Of course, there is no such thing as ideal web hosting provider for everyone. Please bear in mind that different people see things differently. One may say company A is very very good and reliable, then the next person may think that company B is better. So, in terms of viewing an ideal provider, it differs from person to person. Therefore, when a question such as "list the top 5 web hosting company" is asked, everyone will have different answer. Briefly, web hosting provider will host your website and make sure it can be accessed by everyone 24 hours a day. So, it is vital to select a reliable one to make sure your website is always accessible particularly if your website is an important means of communication for you to reach your end users. Hence, I have decided to write some tips for those who need to choose a web hosting provider. There are as follows:

Contents
1 Support
2 Price
3 Money Back Guarantee
4 Platforms and Applications Available
5 Scalability, Reliability and Security

Support
Yes, support is undoubtedly the most important thing. Not only support that you need, but make sure it's a Professional Technical support and it's advisable to choose those company that provide 24x7x365 support. Who knows if your website suddenly has problem in the middle of the night. Without round the clock support, who will be able to help you? A simple advice here, before you choose a web hosting provider, try emailing them and see how fast is their response. Whether it's a technical question or question to their customer service department, it doesn't matter. But, since you are interested in their plans, I would suggest you email their customer service department first. If they have prompt reply, give them a tick in your criteria list. So, remember this essential point.

Price
When it comes to money, people will think twice. Yup, so do I. People will compare the price from one company to another. In order to make a wise decision, make sure the pricing you choose is unbeatable and reasonable. However, do take note that cheaper provider does not necessarily mean better service. I'm sure you will have doubt when you see that Company A offers so cheap plan compared to Company B. Have no fear. Just do some other surveys or join forums to ask for other people's opinion on the particular company's review. Of course, until the end of the day, you will also have to decide and take some risks to trust the company that you will choose. Hence, the next criterion is also equally important when you take your risk to trust a company.

Money Back Guarantee
Make sure you find a web hosting company who has money back guarantee policy. The most common one is 30-days money back guarantee. Only a handful will offer 60-days money back guarantee. So, with this guarantee, you do not have to worry when you start venturing into the cyberworld and letting the whole world view your proudly developed website.

Platforms and Applications Available
In a more technical sense, it means the different type of platforms available. Nowadays, web hosting company will offer mostly Linux or Windows platform in their server. So, if your website is based on .ASP technology, no doubt you will have to go for Windows platform. Check also on the features offered for you, whether the features is supported by your website back-end technology or not. If you are unsure, don't be hesitate to ask them. That's why as mentioned earlier, support is very important. You can email them to ask or even call them if they are your local hosting providers.

Scalability, Reliability and Security
How good a web hosting provider is also depends on how scalable; reliable in terms of backbone connection and website uptime; and secured in terms of virus and SPAM filtering. Remember that all these criteria are needed to make sure your website is running well. It will be great if the provider allows simple and easy upgrade for any hosting plans. Some also provide customisation for you. So, this depends on your decision ultimately. Please remember to choose provider that allows you to easily add bandwidth, web space or email accounts as your traffic grows.

Do also check on the reliability of the web hosting company on their uptime guarantee as well as asking them on where is their server located and their backbone connection. You can always email to ask them this. And I suppose a reliable web hosting company will provide this content on their website for you to see. So, in case if they do provide livechat, ask them instantly. A proven uptime guarantee will at least ensure that your website can be safely viewed by your intended users from anywhere and at anytime of the day.

Security is what everyone needs. Therefore, it's best to choose provider that has stated clearly on their policy that they have SPAM and virus filtering feature already installed. As there is one saying that goes like this, "prevention is better than cure". So, be prepared before you are attacked by virus or malicious email attachments.

Free Web Hosting - Curse or Blessing ?

A Happy New Year !!
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
As I promised in Dec 14 post "Earlier Christmas Presents For Readers", I  will talk about Free Microsoft Web Hosting here which many people might not know about. Also Google Free Web Hosting. This article is based on my bitter personal experience with free Web Hosting.
My next post will be Linux Hosting. - I am just kidding!!!
I wil not post articles that I do not understand at all.
But it will be a heavier article as Christmas is finished.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

My Answer is "Curse”, but I am currently using MS Free Website!!
It is a contradiction, isn’t it?
Don't use free Web Hosting/Domain Name IF YOU ARE Serious wemaster to create long term professional/business site from the start.
When I started Affiliate Internet marketing 9 months ago I did not want to spend any money on web Hosting and Domain Names.
My journey for the search of Free web Hosting is below with some hiccups and catastrophes along the way.

1. Google Blogger Free Web Hosting
I created some Google Blogger sites and this site is one of them.
I read in forum some people’s Blogger sites were deleted or suspended.
I have not been suspended, but read below. A disaster struck me.
2. Google Free Web Hosting
Then I wanted a multi-page non-blogger site and created Google Free site https://sites.google.com/site/nightwishmarketing/ which is not good looking site as it was created 9 months ago and it has been untouched since.

After 2 months the site was suspended out of the blue without any notice (no Reason).
I emailed them for any reason of the suspension.
Also I asked for lifting of suspension.
But NO REPLY.

I checked the term & conditions and I remember that I can use Google Free site for a commercial/business purpose but too many Affiliate links to redirect visitors are not allowed.
I suspected this is the reason,
As time goes by affiliate links increased so I thought Google did not like it.
But to this day I do not know the real reason,

However Google has a separate paid Web Hosting service
If I had upgraded to this, I would not have been suspended.
There is no free lunch for Free Web Hosting.

3. Microsoft Small Business Free web hosting
However, I am determined to  to pay web Hosting and Domain name.
I was so distressed, but did Google search for free site.

I accidentally found Microsoft Small Business Free web hosting with free site builder.

4. Microsoft Free Blog Web Hosting
At the same time I created a free MS blog site ,but 1 month ago they announced they would close down the blog facility and transfer all my existing posts to Can you believe? To free WordPress blog site.
What a catastrophe!!
I completed the transition from MS Blog and my blog http://nightwishmarketing.wordpress.com/ is now free hosted by WordPress

Today I noticed that Click bank affiliate links are banned from WordPress.
Another hiccup.

Today I just checked the Google Free site https://sites.google.com/site/nightwishmarketing/ as it is better to check before I write this article.
Can you believe?  It is working now. They did not tell me lifting of the suspension.
It seems suspension is lifted!!!  But I know at least 4 or 5 months it was suspended.
Now that my site evolved, using Microsoft so I will not use https://sites.google.com/site/nightwishmarketing/ any more.
I summarize disadvantages below.

  • Your site is at the mercy of Administration of Free Web Hosting Provider.
  • You do not have a full control of your own site.
  • Your site is suspended or deleted out of the blue based on their guidelines, though your content is legitimate
  • Your site is transferred to a different Web Hosting, resulting in losing some contents
Understanding my warnings if you are still interested in click http://sites.google.com/ or http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/

Please be aware that I will not be held liable for your any possible financial loss/mental stress, resulting from choosing Free web Hosting Services stated in this article.

I have not been suspended by MS for my current site for 7 months so it seems ok.
But you never know.
I am walking on a thin ice!!!

I feel MS Small Business Free web Site is very good.
I am happy so far, Space max is 500 MB.
Now my site used up 3 MB

Knowing that Free Web Hosting is “Curse”, I still use Free MS Web Hosting
So I must be an irrational and complicated person!

PS. I will post soon about "Free Domain Name" such as my site http://nightwish2010.tk/
As you might have already guessed,I do not pay any cents for Web Hosting and Domain Names. Stay Tuned!!!

2.1 Time period
2.2 Restrictions
3 How to evaluate a money-back guarantee

What is a money-back guarantee?
A money-back guarantee is a guarantee that the merchant will refund the purchase price in full or in part if the client wants to terminate the service or return the product. The guarantee may depend on specified conditions.

Having a money-back guarantee is common for many industries, including the web hosting industry. It benefits web hosting clients by creating less risk if they choose not to stay with a particular provider, and it benefits web hosts by making their services more attractive to potential clients. While free trials used to be common in the web hosting industry, their abuse by spammers contributed to the shift toward money-back guarantees instead.

Money-back guarantee conditions
Time period
In the web hosting industry, most money-back guarantees are for 30 days or for 15 days. A 30-day guarantee offers more to potential clients, and a 15-day guarantee puts web hosting providers at less risk of having their services abused. Some money-back guarantees are for longer or shorter periods of time.

While a 30-day guarantee gives clients more time to decide if they're happy with a web host, most web hosting clients can find out what they need to know about a particular host within 15 days if they spend that time setting up their websites, testing to make sure everything works, and using customer support.

Restrictions
Some web hosting money-back guarantees are of the "no questions asked" unconditional variety. Most, however, have some restrictions on when they provide refunds. Examples of restrictions to web host money-back guarantees:

1. The guarantee applies to only some packages and not to others.

2. The guarantee applies to some types of payment terms, e.g., monthly, but not to other payment terms.

3. Certain methods of payment are non-refundable, such as checks or bank wire transfers.

4.The refund is for the time remaining for the account and not for the full amount paid.

5. A client has used the web hosting account for illegal purposes, such as spamming.

6. A client has content on the server that is harmful to the server or to other sites on the server.

7. A client uses more than a specified amount of resources, even with an unlimited package.

A client has violated the web host's Terms of Service in any way.
Some web hosts explain the restrictions to their money-back guarantee in the description of the guarantee. Others explain in their Terms of Service or other policy pages any factors that void the money-back guarantee.

How to evaluate a money-back guarantee
Not every web host offers a money-back guarantee, and all money-back guarantees are not the same. If you are looking for web hosting services, read money-back guarantees carefully and balance what they offer with other factors, such as web hosting packages and web host reviews.

Also read the Terms of Service and any other user policies for a web host you're considering. The complete information about a money-back guarantee may be on other user policy pages, and all the policy pages contain information that's important to know before choosing a web host.

Downtime

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
This is to be read with Dec 24 article "Uptime"
Click Most Updated Discount Coupon Codes & My Personal Web Hosting Recommendations if you are interested in those.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Downtime inverse of uptime — an expression of the proportion of time that a service is unavailable, or "down."
In the web hosting industry, what constitutes a system being down can vary widely. It may indicate that a server is disconnected from the network entirely, or powered down. Alternately, it might simply mean that an HTTP service is shut down, thus rendering all web serving unavailable.
Downtime can be either scheduled or unscheduled downtime.

Scheduled downtime

Scheduling downtime is a common event among service providers, allowing them to undertake essential system maintenance that might otherwise interrupt service to their customers.

Scheduling downtime also allows customers to make alternative arrangements to ensure business continuity during the downtime period.

Unscheduled downtime

Unscheduled downtime generally occurs after an unforeseen, catastrophic event. This may include network failures within the infrastructure provider or simply a software failure within a system.
Software failure tends to be the most common cause of unscheduled downtime, ranging from operating system failures through to application level failures.

Uptime

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
It is just before Christmas so I do not want to put in a complicated article.
Otherwise Holiday season is ruined.
I will only try to find easy ones for the next 2 weeks!?
Guess next post. It is obvious "Downtime"
Stay Tuned.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Uptime is a calculation of the amount of time a device is online, available, and functioning during a given time period. Conversely, downtime is a calculation of the amount of time a server is unavailable during a given time period. Many server operators use third-party uptime monitoring services to improve their uptime performance and to verify targets with their customers.

Calculating downtime

Here's a handy list to gauge how much downtime one may experience over the course of a year, based on a web hosting company's uptime guarantees:
  • 99.9%: 8 hours 46 minutes
  • 99.5%: 43 hours 50 minutes
  • 99.0%: 87 hours 39 minutes
  • 98.0%: 175 hours 19 minutes

Uptime reporting

Regular reporting of uptime performance enables stakeholders to determine whether goals and SLAs have been met, as well as enabling decisions to be taken with the aim of improving system reliability.

Shared Hosting

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Hi! Everyone
I found a very good short article about Shared Hosting. When it come to Web Hosting selection, newbies get started with cheap basic one and normally it is tagged "Shared Hosting". I have had some understanding of it before, but this article have given me much clearer idea, though I do not understand some technical terms yet!!
Most Newbies do not choose "Dedicated Hosting" so I will not put it in here for the time being.
I would like to first go through bare minimum otherwise too much information will drown me.
I got good news. I found another good source who permitted me to republish their articles which are very easy to read. Also I will republish some articles and videos of Mr.Chris Farrell membership site. They are really for dummies.

1 What is shared hosting?
2 Advantages of shared hosting
3 Disadvantages of shared hosting

What is shared hosting?
Shared web hosting, with many websites hosted on the same server, is the most common form of web hosting service. Numerous clients' websites are housed together to share the same resources (processor, memory, bandwidth, software), and the number of sites per server can be up into the thousands. In recent years, this hosting option has dynamically grown to become the most popular one.
Another term for shared hosting is virtual hosting. It is important to differentiate between "shared/virtual hosting" and "VPS hosting." Shared hosting usually entails many dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of websites intermingled on one server device. VPS hosting usually consists of less than one dozen websites (and their applications) residing on an individual server device with certain electronic partitions demarking each site into reserved zones on that server device.

 Advantages of shared hosting
Shared hosting plans are cheaper than other types of web hosting plans because the cost is shared among many similar clients or end users.
Clients can pay for only what they need and upgrade their plans when their needs grow.
It isn't necessary to know a lot about web hosting to get started with a basic website using a shared web hosting account.
Web hosts pre-install server software and updates and (usually) control panels.
Clients aren't responsible for server maintenance.

Disadvantages of shared hosting
Clients typically have limits on disk space, monthly bandwidth, and other resources such as CPU, RAM, and i/o.
Because the resources are shared, some problems with one site can affect other sites on the same server.
Root access is not available with shared hosting accounts.
Sometimes it can be a difficult or impossible task to make and restore backups.
Spammers on the same server could get the I.P. you are sharing blacklisted, resulting in having trouble sending email to some people.

Bandwidth

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
This article is republished, being permitted by http://www.webhostingtalk.com
Hi! Everone
I republished last time definition of "Disc Space". When you visit web Hosting Hosting company's site, first line says Disc Space and second line says Bandwidth. So I decided to find an article for bandwidth which never learnt before and I was curious about the meaning.
The article below is good, but it is not easy to understand.  I do not understand bottom half so I have to read this art in the future again.
Don's be discouraged to read this article if you are like me!?  I hope I can post easy one next time. Stay tuned!.

In normal electronic terms, bandwidth refers to a range within a band of frequencies, or data sum being transmitted in a fixed amount of time. However, in the web hosting industry, bandwidth refers to the amount of data that is transferred between a server to its client computers within a certain period of usage.
Contents
1 Bandwidth or data transfer
2 How it affects your site
3 Determining your requirements
4 Unlimited plans
5 Reducing transfers
6 FTP bandwidth

Bandwidth or data transfer

Too often, web hosts talk about bandwidth and data transfer in the same breath, but they are different, although very closely related. Bandwidth is how much data can be transferred at a time, and data transfer is how much data is being transferred.

Think of it this way. If bandwidth were a bridge, then the bigger the bridge is, the more vehicles can pass through it. In comparison, data transfer is the number of vehicles allowed on the bridge in, say, a month. In essence, data transfer is the consumption of bandwidth.

How it affects your site

The less bandwidth you have, the slower your site loads, regardless of the visitor's connection type. If you have more visitors, some of them will have to wait their turn. The less data transfer you have, the more often you'll find your site unavailable because you've reached the maximum allowed until a new month rolls by or you upgrade your account.

Determining your requirements

Usually when a host talks about bandwidth, they are referring to your monthly transfer limit. So you need to figure out what is sufficient for your site to function. You'll need to gather some information; this is fairly easy to do if you already have a site. Most of this information is available from your traffic history. If you don't have an existing site, provide an optimistic estimate if you intend to heavily promote the site. Then get ready for some math.

Find out the daily averages of:

Number of visitors / expected number of visitors
Page size including the graphics of the page
Page views / expected pages viewed by each visitor

Then, multiply them as follows:

Visitors x Page size x Page views x 30 days = Monthly Website Transfer

You should also throw in a small margin or error to take into account email traffic and your own uploads to the server. If you offer downloads, then you should add the following:

Average/Expected downloads x File Size x 30 days = Monthly Download Transfer

Unlimited plans

Bandwidth is very expensive. All hosts are limited by their own allocations. Think back to the bridge. What happens is that each visitor to your site will be given a smaller lane to transfer the data, creating many tiny lanes therefore "unlimited". The more visitors you have, the smaller each lane will be, which makes each visitor wait for the page to load.

More often than not, there is little choice over your bandwidth, as your host controls this. Some hosts may limit the number of simultaneous connections, in affect slowing down your site and refusing some visitors. This is called throttling. If you're concerned about this, you should ask the host how they control bandwidth usage or purchase a package with more data transfer.

Reducing transfers

On the other hand, you can reduce your transfer amount by building simpler, more efficient websites and optimizing your graphics. Refrain from fancy Flash presentations or streaming audio. Use CSS, and call JavaScript externally instead of embedding it in every page. Remove unwanted tags, white space, and comments. Limit your META tags to those absolutely necessary. Having too many keywords is not search engine friendly. Besides, many search engines will only review the first few and ignore the rest.

Another good idea is to cache your website, but you might want to set an expiry date in the HTTP headers so that the browser will refresh the content after a certain time. Use mod-gzip. It could save you as much as 40% of your bandwidth. Out-of-control robots can also suck down your bandwidth like a black hole. So use robots.txt to keep spiders in check.

Also be aware of hotlinking, which is what happens when another website you don't control links to your images and other media. The other site is effectively stealing your bandwidth. You can prevent other sites from doing this by checking the HTTP referrer header to prevent hotlinking - this can save you a lot of bandwidth.

FTP bandwidth

It’s also important to realize that many hosting companies calculate amount of files or data transmitted to and from clients via FTP applications or file management system as part of bandwidth. This may not consume much bandwidth. However, for those that engage in frequent data, content, or image changes, they’ll end up increasing bandwidth consumption on a large scale.

Also, it should be noted that files and digital data such as music, movies, and software downloads must be considered before uploading them. Many visitors play and listen to or watch music and video files on websites or download them onto their hard disks; both activities could increase bandwidth consumption at alarming rate. The only precaution is to limit their uses on the website.

Disk space is a common term used in the web hosting industry and refers to the amount of space on the server hard drive.

Amount of disk space required

All data / content on a website is stored in disk space, including:
  • Files
  • Databases
  • Images
  • Scripts
  • Web-based email
  • Traffic logs
Web hosting clients need to know the amount of disk space that they require for these reasons:
  • To know the minimum amount of disk space for the web hosting plan they choose
  • To be able to plan for future needs, i.e., choose a web host with plans that they can upgrade to
  • To plan their web hosting budget
Generally, hosting providers offer different hosting packages on varied platforms, so disk space that comes with them differs in scope. For example, for a shared hosting plan, the server will be shared to suit a pre-determined hosting option type. However, many web hosts offer customized hosting plans.

History of disk space pricing

When web hosting was new and web hosting clients didn't know the industry, many hosting providers cheated clients. For instance, some providers charged much higher fees for too little space, while some offered unusable or ‘shabby’ disk space and sold it through hyped-up marketing slogans and promises.
However, competition in the mid-2000s has transformed the hosting industry into one of the most diversified and enduring in the Internet world, with many legacies to show for it. One is that disk space is cheaper. Previously sharp practices have been widely eliminated, replaced by generous amounts of disk space at reasonable prices.

Cheaper disk space

Studies show that most websites average as little as 40-50KB per page. Many small website owners opt for small amounts of disk storage space. For websites with more databases, multimedia, and other content, more disk space may be required.
Some people expect that with more technological advancements, disk space will become even cheaper. However, website owners still need to understand disk space usage, procurement, advancement, and upgrading needs.

"""""For The Most Updated Discount Coupon Codes,Click http://nightwishmarketing.web.officelive.com/WebHosting.aspx
I am most likely to pick up articles for definitions of technical terms for the next post.  Stay Tuned !!"""""

After investigating big Internet Marketing forums, reading numerous member comments and other net reviews,
I got to a conclusion that statistically
Hostgator seems to be recommended at Number 1 with a clear majority of people.

IF YOU WISH TO SPEND TIME,Please confirm this visiting forums http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ or http://www.honestworkfromhomesuccess.com/ or other net reviews.
Also membership site (more than 4,000 members) which I belong to happens to use Hostgator.

1. I am currently with expensive Hostgator, but read below that it was not my own choice.
I belong to a subscription membership site that has more than 4000 members "Not Criminal Mr. Chris Farrell's Internet Marketing Coaching Service".The site uses Hostgator and the monthly membership fee includes FREE Web Hosting so every member has got no choice, but to use Hostgator free. I have no problems with Hostgator services.

2. If I were to choose Web hosting for my personal site
I am Most likely to use iPage, FatCow or MyHosting as they are cheaper and their support seems as good as Hostgator. Don’t get me wrong. I currently have no problems with Hostgator

3. My Recommendation for you

3.1 If your priority is Price: Start with iPage, FatCow or MyHosting
After joining if you are not happy which is most unlikely, you join Hostgator.
In other words, use Hostgator as a Last Resort Safety Net whom you can fall back on
.

3.2 If your priority Playing Safe: Choose Hostgator, though Expensive

4. Best & Reliable Way to evaluate Web Hosting Services ON YOUR OWN
Ideally visit http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ or http://www.warriorforum.com/ and read what forum members are saying.
Huge numbers of comments are posted endlessly everyday and THEY are FROM Personal EXPERINCE coal face webmasters.
Do not trust review site or sites reviewing web hosting  as Some are motivated by only affiliation income without GENUINE investigations/reviews/personal experience.
AND you might choose other web Hosting Services NOT RECOMMENDED HERE, depending on your requirements.
